Following a recent wave of Sinnoh Pokémon, Niantic has started a new event celebrating the Lunar New Year. This event brings double XP for catching and evolving Pokémon, as well as increased rates of obtaining Lucky Pokémon from trades.
The event also brings increased spawn rates for a specific roster of Pokémon, as listed below:
This list was put out by Niantic, although the actual roster seems to also include Growlithe. Out of these boosted Pokémon, six of them can be Shiny, including the new Shiny Pokémon of the event: Spoink. Spoink has had its Shiny variant released because it is the Year of the Pig.
There is also one somewhat random effect of this event: One new Field research task. That task, which requires trading ten Pokémon, awards a Chimchar encounter.
This event is scheduled to end on February 13 at 1:00 PM PST, which is one day before Valentine's Day. Whether or not we'll have a Valentine's Day is unknown.
