Welcome back to Generation Preparation, Trainers. This article will analyze Empoleon and its pre-evolutions, and their potential in Pokémon GO. Let's dive in!
PIPLUP
attack: 112 |
defense: 103 |
stamina: 106 |
max cp: 947 |
Piplup is the Water-type starter of Generation 4. As with Squirtle, Totodile, Mudkip, and the other starters, we expect you will be able to hatch Piplup out of 5KM Eggs. We also expect it to cost 25 Piplup Candy to evolve a Piplup into Prinplup.
PRINPLUP
attack: 150 |
defense: 143 |
stamina: 128 |
max cp: 1549 |
Prinplup is Piplup's evolved form. We expect it to require 100 Piplup Candy to evolve a Prinplup into Empoleon, and to follow the starter trend of taking 3KM to earn a Candy when walking it as a Buddy.
EMPOLEON
attack: 210 |
defense: 193 |
stamina: 168 |
max cp: 2741 |
PLACE IN THE META: As with the other starters, Empoleon's place in the meta will depend on the moves Niantic decides to give it.
One thing Empoleon has going for it is its large amount of resistances. As a Water-type and a Steel-type, Empoleon resists Normal-, Water-, Psychic-, Flying-, Rock-, Dragon-, Bug-, and Fairy-type attacks. It greatly resists Steel-type and Ice-type attacks. Empoleon is only weak to Electric-, Ground-, and Fighting-type attacks.
LIKELY MOVEPOOL: Out of the Fast Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Empoleon:
Out of the Charged Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Empoleon:
Should Niantic add any new moves, the following are good candidates for Infernape's movepool:
LOOKING AHEAD: Looking beyond Generation 4, Empoleon gains no evolution, Mega Evolution, or exclusive Z-Move.
