Niantic is throwing a big party to celebrate Pokémon GO's one year anniversary and 750 million downloads worldwide! The first part of this celebration will be the Solstice Event, the leaked Fire and Ice event. As a reminder, Fire-type and Ice-type Pokémon will have increased spawn rates, Lucky Eggs will be discounted by 50% in the Shop, and extra XP will be awarded for accurate PokéBall throws. This event will begin on June 13, 2017.
After the Solstice Event concludes on June 20, 2017, the Gym rework system will launch. From Niantic's words in their blog post, the new Gym system may not launch directly after the Solstice Event. To help Niantic prepare for the rework, Niantic will be temporarily disabling Gyms. No start date was given for the shutdown, so it could come at any time.
A real-life event will also be put on. Chicago's Grant Park will be the site of Pokémon GO Fest Chicago. This event will take place on July 22, 2017. On June 19, tickets for the event will be put on the market. The sale will begin at 10:00 A.M. (PT). Tickets will be sold on Pokémon GO's official website. Unibail-Rodamco shopping centers in Europe in June through September. The Pokémon Company will be hosting a Japanese event in August known as the "Pikachu Outbreak." Niantic will be releasing more information about these three physical events on social media and the official website in the upcoming weeks. Below is Niantic's official blog post.
