The newest update for Pokémon GO was announced late last night. Currently, it has not appeared on the iOS App Store (will by Thursday), but it is on the Google Play Store. Before we go into the "Minor Text Fixes," lets look at what Niantic formally announced.
- - Added icons to the Pokémon information screen to indicate how the Pokémon was caught.
- - Added the ability for Trainers to spin the Photo Disc at a Gym after completing a Raid Battle.
- - Added the ability for Trainers to send Berries to their Pokémon defending Gyms through the Pokémon info screen when they are not nearby. Motivation regained will be less effective through this method.
- - Added the ability for Trainers to give Berries to Pokémon defending Gyms if their motivation meter is full.
- - Improved Pokémon Collection screen search functionality.
- - Fixed an issue where Trainers were unable to complete Raid Battles started before time expired on the map view.
- - Fixed an issue where Pokémon are not properly returned to their Trainer after defending a Gym.
- - Various bug fixes.
Thank goodness that we're now able to spin the Photo Disc at a Gym after a Raid! That was annoying.
It is interesting that we'll be able to send Berries out to our own defenders. It is good that motivation-gain is less through this new system. Hopefully there is a way to see a defender's motivation from the Gym Badge screen.
The last interesting addition in the ability to feed Berries to Pokémon that do not need them. This is a good way to get extra Stardust if the rewards are still the same.
Now lets get in to what the dataminers found underneath the skin of the newest update. (It is quite spoiler-heavy.)

1. EVENT check-in: Spoofing won't a problem at go fest!
Since the idea of Legendaries at GO Fest first surfaced, worry about the large amount of spoofers also getting access to these Legendaries (along with any Unown, out-of-place regionals, and the special 2KM Eggs). We now know that this will not be a problem.
A QR-code scanner is now in the code. There is another aspect to event check-in, but we're (as well as our sources) leaving this out so spoofers don't slip in.

2. The go fest medal
The graphical asset for the in-app Medal has been added. Trainers that attend this event will get access to this one-of-a-kind medal. To save the spoilers, the medal's graphic will be featured at the very bottom of this article. Only look if you want to.
3. event-specific PokeStops and gyms
New code for event-locked PokéStops and Gyms has appeared. Combined with the event check-in additions, it seems that PokéStops awarding special Eggs and Gyms hosting Tier 5 Raids will only be visible to legitimate GO Fest attendees.
4. "Exclusive" raids
Code has appeared for "exclusive" Raids. This could refer to Legendary or other event-exclusive Raids. The black Raid Pass will also be used for these Raids.
5. The legendary additions
Time to get to the most-exciting news: Legendary Pokémon!
LEGENDARY GRAPHICS: A new Raid icon and victory banner featuring Lugia have been added. These icons will be used in place of the regular Rhydon faces. A new, black Legendary Raid Pass now has graphical assets.
LEGENDARIES CANNOT BE DEFENDERS: A new error message was added. The message confirms some other code that was previously discovered that said Legendaries won't be able to be placed in Gyms.
TRANSFER MESSAGE: As with Shiny Pokémon, Legendaries will have an additional warning message if you attempt to transfer them to Professor Willow.
TECHNICAL DISTINGUISHES: Some Legendary Pokémon are technically referred to as Mythical Pokémon. Mew is an example of such. These Mythical Pokémon are event-exclusives in the main series games, which could indicate special treatment may come to these Pokémon.
Legendary Pokémon coming at GO Fest just became even more likely! Really, Niantic only needs to make the server-side update for Legendary Raids to appear!
