Welcome back, Trainers! In this installment of Generation Preparation we'll be taking a look at the Sea Slug Pokémon, Shellos and Gastrodon.
SHELLOS
ATTACK: 103 |
DEFENSE: 111 |
STAMINA: 152 |
MAX CP: 1069 |
Shellos and Gastrodon have two different variants: an East Sea form and a West Sea form. (The Shellos pictured is the Western form, and the Gastrodon pictured is the Eastern form). Shellos and Gastrodon cannot morph between these variants, and there is no difference between them other than the design.
We wouldn't be surprised if Niantic makes these forms hemispherical regionals, just as Seviper and Zangoose as well as Volbeat and Illumise are now. Region-exclusive Pokémon are not found in Eggs, and we wouldn't expect Shellos to be hatchable regardless. We do expect, however, that Shellos and Gastrodon will take 3KM to find a Candy as a Buddy.

GASTRODON
ATTACK: 169 |
DEFENSE: 149 |
STAMINA: 222 |
MAX CP: 2265 |
PLACE IN THE META: Gastrodon does get a significant amount of play in the main-series' competitive scene. But we don't expect that viability to carry over to Pokémon GO. It just can't compete with Kyogre, Manaphy, Vaporeon, Gyarados, Rhyperior, Groudon, Golem, etc.
Gastrodon is a Water- and Ground-type. This makes it double weak to Grass-type attacks; "immune" to Electric-type attacks; as well as resistant to Rock-, Poison-, Fire-, and Steel-type attacks.
LIKELY MOVEPOOL: Out of the Fast Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Gastrodon:
Out of the Charged Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Gastrodon:
Should Niantic add any new moves, the following are good candidates for Gastrodon's movepool:
LOOKING AHEAD: Looking beyond Generation 4, Gastrodon gains no evolution, exclusive Z-Move, or Mega Evolution.
