The recent Halloween Event introduced the most Shiny Pokémon we've ever seen in one event. But are more coming? Will we ever see the full roster of Shinies? Let's discuss.
Firstly, we need to start with some clarification. There was a "leak" that surfaced on The Silph Road over the weekend showing the Shiny models of the Poliwag family discovered in the network traffic. That leak was fake, as confirmed by Chrales and Reversal.
PAST TRENDS: Before Shiny Magikarp and Shiny Gyarados were introduced, they had their 3D models updated. This change was a cosmetic one, enhancing and darkening the color palette of the models.
This model update may also apply to Gengar. Those who have battled with Gengar after the latest update may have seen its new dodging animation. Gengar now jumps over backwards to dodge instead of simply leaping to the side. And with the discovery of the Shiny models for Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar being stored on the servers, it could indicate an upcoming release for these Shiny Pokémon.
BELATED HALLOWEEN?: Obviously, it does seem a little strange that if Niantic might release Shiny Gengar that they would do it after the Halloween Event. It could tie into an upcoming real-world event, such as the Safari Zone. Pokémon GO Park did introduce Shiny Pikachu, so it isn't unheard of to get a new Shiny at a real-world event. Although, the upcoming Safari Zone is featuring Ground-and-Water-types, not Ghost-or-Poison-types.
SHINY SCHEDULE?: During the Halloween Event we saw a new Shiny family every couple of days (as PNN predicted). Obviously, the Halloween Event ended just under a week ago, and no new Shiny families have been added. The trend may not carry over past the event, but we are really hoping it will.
Even if there isn't a "Shiny schedule" that Niantic has put in place, they really need to be more generous with Shiny Pokémon. We'll have over 300 Pokémon with the addition of the full Generation 3 Pokédex, and we only have ten that can be Shiny at the moment.
MESSAGE TO NIANTIC: Please, Niantic, stop being so stingy with Shinies and release a new Shiny family every week or two. We'd love to battle with a black Charizard, green Dragonite, or purple Lapras. Shiny hunting is a major "mini-game," of sorts, in the main-series games. It would easily carry over to Pokémon GO. We know that you are storing unused Shiny models (for Legendaries and the Gastly family, specifically) on your servers, so let us use them.
Thanks for reading, Trainers! Check back tomorrow for analysis about the seven new moves found in the latest update.
