With Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! launching on Friday, Pokémon GO needed an update to add connectivity for those games. That update abnormally debuted on iOS (normally they come out on Android days before the iOS update comes to the App Store) yesterday afternoon. Here's what dataminers found underneath the surface:
MELTAN & MELMETAL
The 808th and 809th Pokémon, Meltan and Melmetal, are now in the code! There is also a new section of the Pokédex that's seemingly meant for them, but the tab's title is displaying incorrectly.
If you don't remember, Meltan is a brand-new Mythical Pokémon obtained by luring it to you with a Mystery Box (more on that below). The Mystery Box is obtained once a week if you send a Pokémon to Pokémon: Let's Go. Meltan then evolves to Melmetal for 400 Candy, which can only be done in Pokémon GO.
Speaking of transferring Pokémon to LGPE, code is in place for connecting to the Nintendo Switch and Poké Ball Plus. Speaking of which, the GO Plus icon now looks more like the Poké Ball Plus. This is just one of multiple slight visual alterations.

MYSTERY BOX
The Mystery Box is, essentially, a Meltan-only Incense. Its code and assets have been added to the game's code. Interestingly, the code refers to it as the "Beluga" Wonder Box. Beluga is the codename that GAME FREAK supposedly called Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee while they were in development, so it is fascinating to see that codename made it into the code of Pokémon GO.
PIKACHU BOX?
Enough about Meltan and the Mystery Box. Let's move on to a mysterious new Gift Box icon that has appeared. We do not know the purpose of this box, but it has a striking resemblance to Pikachu. Our theory is that this box may be some kind of reward for sending Pokémon to Let's Go, but that remains to be seen.
Speaking of Pikachu, we may have another costumed Pikachu incoming. A new event tag labeled "November 2018" has appeared, which usually indicates a new costume-wearing Pokémon. If this is so, let's hope Niantic shakes it up this time and maybe gives us a hat-wearing Eevee, or something that isn't another Pikachu.

SINNOH STONE
Chrales recently found some network traffic data hinting at the "Sinnoh Stone," an item that would allow Pokémon with Generation 4 Evolutions to evolve. That item has shown up in the APK, following a leak from the official email newsletter earlier in the day hinting at the Sinnoh Evolutions.
The Sinnoh Stone is not cannon in Pokémon, aside from some fan-made games. It seems to be Niantic's way of condensing the multitude of new Evolution Items needed for the cross-generation Evolutions down into one.

The other big story from yesterday was the release of the first trailer for the Detective Pikachu movie, which took the Internet by storm. Click here to watch it. Thanks for reading, Trainers!
