Earlier this week, the the first wave of EX Raid Passes for 2018 was distributed. For the first-time recipients, and there were many, a feeling of joy likely came over them. However, for the many who have never received one, their anger over the unfair system continues to boil.
Even after Niantic's increased transparency over EX Raids an their small rework of the system, it still remains unfair. Niantic admitted that their original algorithm was completely random. After Niantic released their developers' insights article, the algorithm was allegedly changed to one that takes account of many different factors.
We say allegedly because many people who have sky-high Gym Badge points and total Raids completed still don't have an EX Raid Pass. Brandon Tan and Reversal are two Trainers who come to mind. But, besides improving the algorithm or deleting EX Raids, what can Niantic actually do to improve the system?
We think that the EX Raid Boss needs to change. One of the biggest issues with the system is that these Raids are the only way to register Mewtwo to your Pokédex. We are urging Niantic to do the right thing and not make Mewtwo "EX-clusive." Mewtwo needs to be temporarily available in the regular Raid system, even if for one week.
Obviously, if Niantic takes this step, we will need a new EX Raid Boss. By no means do we think it should be an unreleased Pokémon (such as Rayquaza or Celebi). We would hope that all of the pre-released Legendary Pokémon would then go into the EX Raidpool. This would give Trainers who missed out on Legendaries like Articuno or Raikou another chance.
But, for the Trainers who already have good-IV versions of every Legendary Pokémon, what would the point of EX Raids be? A simple suggestion, and one we think Niantic would implement, would be to increase the amount of XP and Items received. EX Raids could award 25,000 XP and a greater amount of Golden Razz Berries and Rare Candy. Niantic could even give one Master Ball to each Trainer that completes an EX Raid.
Even if Niantic implements those suggestions, there still wouldn't be a significant point to EX Raids. That is why we are hoping that, if Niantic puts all past Legendaries in the EX Raidpool, Niantic would release Shiny-variants of these Pokémon. Even though Legendaries aren't rare in Pokémon GO, Shinies are. We think that these Legendary Pokémon should be rare, and EX Raids would be a way of accomplishing this.
