This generation has introduced a variety of new meta Pokémon, but few have been hyped up more than Flygon. While it may not be Legendary-class in power, it is certainly that in popularity. So is Flygon worth your Stardust?
THE BACKGROUND: Flygon is a Ground-type and a Dragon-type. The type combination does give you good coverage, but also a double weakness to Ice-type attacks. This should be nothing new to experienced Trainers, as Dragonite also has this weakness.
LEGENDARY RAIDS: While Flygon is a bad counter for Kyogre, it will prove to be useful against upcoming Legendary Raid Bosses. It's Dragon-type attacks will be super-effective against Latios, Latias, and Rayquaza. Meanwhile, it's Ground-type attacks will be super-effective against Registeel and Regirock.
THE FUTURE: The mighty Garchomp will be introduced next generation. Garchomp will exceed Flygon in power, as it the pseudo-Legendary of the Sinnoh Region. Garchomp will have the same typing, a future Mega Evolution, and much better stats. In all regards, Garchomp is a much better investment for your Stardust.
But Generation 4 is months away. We expect it to launch this year, but it is going to take a while. In the meantime, we have better Ground-types and Dragon-types in the first three generations. Groudon and Rayquaza are the most notable among them.
OUR CONCLUSION: Our determination is Flygon is, for the most part, not worth it. You currently have, or will have, better choices that outclass Flygon. If you need more Dragon or Ground-types, only then should Flygon be on your radar. Thanks for reading, Trainers.
