January is behind us, leaving us for a month of possibilities for new events in Pokémon GO! But what will they be? What will Niantic do this year? Let's discuss.
VALENTINE'S DAY: An event for Valentine's Day is the most-expected one. Last year's event featured double Candy, six-hour Lures, and increased rates of finding and hatching pink Pokémon. This event was also a prequel to the launch of Generation 2.
We expect this year's event to be similar. The pink Pokémon will likely return, obviously with an increased roster because of the new generations. The double Candy and six-hour Lure Modules are also expected to return. We also are hoping that Shiny Luvdisc will be released, as it is the literal embodiment of Valentine's Day.
NEW LEGENDARY RAIDS: We currently have Kyogre as our Legendary Raid Boss, but it's only around for 13 more days. The community seems decided that Rayquaza will be the next Legendary Raid Boss, but our money is on Latios and Latias.
Kyogre ends on Valentine's Day, meaning the two gender-based Legendaries being released would be very poetic. Also, if Niantic releases Rayquaza next, it would have released all of the major Legendaries of Generation 3. They would be fools to play all of their aces this quickly, leaving the spring and summer full of "off-Legends."
COMMUNITY DAY: We already have confirmation of this event. On February 24, the next Community Day will occur in your local timezone. The bonus effects are triple Stardust for capturing Pokémon and three-hour Lure Modules, and the featured Pokémon will be Dratini.
Dratini has earned itself widespread speculation. What will its event-exclusive move be? Draco Meteor and Thunder have been thrown around quite often on Reddit. We also think that Flamethrower and Blizzard are also realistic options. Also, many people think that the Shiny Dratini family will be released. We also support that theory, but we'll have to wait and see what happens.
POKÉMON DAY: Towards the end of February 2017, Niantic announced the Pokémon Day mini-event. The event was nothing special, as it only gave us Party-Hat Pikachu and Raichu. Should these costume-wearing variants make a repeat appearance, we hope Party-Hat Pichu, a great sale, and some other effect accompany them.
NEW POKÉMON: While not technically an event, we do expect the final wave of Generation 3 to be released sometime this month. The way would be based around Flying-types like Altaria, Taillow, and Salamence.
A new Pokémon GO trailer was released by the Pokémon Company today, which featured the unreleased Masquerain. Could this be a hint that the final wave is planned for this month? Stay tuned for any information!
Before you go, we should remind you that the event where only Pokémon introduced in Generation 3 has come to an end. Thanks for reading, Trainers!
