In Pokémon GO, there is no Item more coveted than an EX Raid Pass. After the rigged lottery finally gives out a Pass, you have the opportunity to catch the coveted Mewtwo. Well, at least for now, it's Mewtwo. Niantic could change up or add a new EX Raid Boss whenever they want. We'll be going over many different plausible options that Niantic could make replace or join Mewtwo. Let's begin!
DEOXYS: Many people have speculated that Deoxys will be the next EX Boss. It shares a similar genetic theme and power level with Mewtwo. However, its "Mythical" classification may prove to be an impediment to EX Boss-ship. More likely than not, Deoxys will end up being available through the quest system.
With that said, we'll have to wait and see how Niantic handles Deoxys. If they release it via quests, we think that this will be the precedent for all the Mythical Pokémon. If they release Deoxys in (EX) Raids, this could indicate that the non-fairylike Mythicals will be released in this manner. Those would be Deoxys, Darkrai, Genesect, Hoopa (Unbound), Volcanion, and Zeraora.
REGIGIGAS: Regigigas is a Legendary Pokémon that will be introduced in the next generation. It is, to use a fan term, the "trio-master" of Regirock, Regice, and Registeel. In the past, Niantic hasn't made these "trio-masters" EX Raid Bosses, but Regigigas may be an exception.
In the main-series games, Regigigas' Ability, Slow Start, nerfs its Slaking-level stats. Slow Start weakens Regigigas' Attack and Speed for the first few turns. Even with the usual Legendary nerf, Regigigas will still be incredibly powerful. With its "colossal" nature, we really think Regigigas has a serious chance to become an EX Raid Boss.
ARCEUS: Arceus is the Pokémon God. Quite literally, as Pokémon lore states that this Pokémon created the world eons ago. It is a Mythical Pokémon, but it's God! It's incredibly powerful, and has some of the best stats of any of the 807 known Pokémon.
We said above that Deoxys' handling will be the determining factor, but Arceus may be the only exception to the rules it sets. Regardless if Arceus is put in quests or EX Raids, it will not be easily obtainable once Generation 4 rolls around.
TYPE: NULL & SILVALLY: We now enter the territory far from the near future. Silvally's pre-evolution, Type: Null, is also a plausible candidate for an EX Raid Boss. Like Mewtwo, these Legendary Pokémon were genetically created by people.
Simply put, the similarities that Type: Null and Silvally share to Mewtwo and Arceus, as well as the interesting new concept of Legendary evolution, make Type: Null very likely to be an EX Boss.
THE ULTRA BEASTS: Ultra Beasts are a subset of Legendary Pokémon that were introduced in Generation 7. They are powerful Pokémon from other dimensions. Because of this interesting lore, they could be considered possible candidates.
One problem with this idea is that there are quite a few of them. Eleven to be exact. They are Nihilego, Buzzwole, Pheromosa, Xurkitree, Celesteela, Kartana, Guzzlord, Poipole, Naganadel, Stakataka, and Blacephalon. But, if any Ultra Beasts are to become EX Bosses, we believe that Naganadel's pre-evolution, Poipole, will. This is only due to Poipole's different obtainability in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, as well as its popularity.
