Well, this was unexpected! Niantic has surprised everyone by announcing that quests and Mythical Pokémon are finally coming to Pokémon GO later this week!
Quests will be known as research tasks. By performing a variety of different tasks, Trainers will help Professor Willow research Mythical Pokémon such as Mew. Completing tasks, which come in two varieties, will earn rewards.
The first type of task is the Field Research tasks. These seem to be simple tasks, such as spinning six PokéStops or transferring nine Pokémon. The second type is Special Research, which are specific challenges from Professor Willow. These tasks appear to be more difficult and require more of a journey than Field Research tasks.
By completing one of these tasks, you'll earn a daily Stamp. Once you reach seven stamps, you'll earn a chance at even greater rewards. These include encounters with Mythical and Legendary Pokémon. They could also include (and this is speculative) previously-unobtainable items, such as a Master Ball.
Thanks for reading, Trainers. Make sure to stay tuned to PNN.com and our Twitter page (@PNN_APTV) for more content and news about quests.
UPDATE: The Pokémon Company has revealed that this new system is to come out on Friday. Most likely, it will go live at 1:00 PM PT.
