Shiny Overload incoming?

This weekend brought some crazy developments! Following Niantic's tease of a Kanto event and the departure of the April Fools sprites, the sprites of all Pokémon from Generations 1 and 2 have changed. Additionally, a majority of Pokémon species now have their Shiny sprites added.

This has led many people to theorize that the upcoming Kanto event will give us the full Shiny roster of Generation 1 Shiny variants. However, the assets for that are not in place yet. Regardless, it looks like Niantic is preparing to dump Shiny Pokémon on us. But is this a good or bad idea?

We'll never say no to new Shiny variants, but suddenly doubling to tripling our roster is just too much. We've been enjoying the way Niantic has been handing new Shiny Pokémon in 2018, as it makes each Pokémon exciting (especially those who have become mundane and boring, such as Murkrow and Swablu, and those featured in Community Day).

Our message to Niantic is this: Restrain yourself. Make this event extra exciting with the largest amount of new Shiny variants we've seen, but still have many unreleased ones. Those unreleased Shinies are your insurance policy, as they can fill gaps in events and new Legendary Raid Bosses to keep the community engaged.

SUGGESTED: Does the introduction of Shiny Lugia set a standard for Shiny Legendary Pokémon going forward?

WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE: For those of you who did not play the main series games, you may be wondering why some of these Shiny Pokémon look seasick and have a fondness for pink, green, and gold coloration. Well, don't blame Niantic. All of these designs were created by a GAME FREAK color-swap formula years ago for the other Pokémon games. To view the sprites that were found, click here.

Thanks for reading, Trainers! We expect the Kanto event's details to be revealed soon, so stay tuned to PNN.com and our Twitter page for more details.
