Gible, Gabite, Garchomp
Welcome back to Generation Preparation, Trainers! This time we'll be analyzing the fan-favorite powerhouse Garchomp. Let's begin!

Gible

  • CATEGORY: Land Shark Pokémon
  • PRONOUNCED: GIB-bull
  • TYPE: Dragon / Ground
  • HEIGHT: 2' 04"
  • WEIGHT: 45.2 lbs.
Picture

attack:  124

defense:  84

stamina:  116

max  cp:  988

Gible is the pseudo-Legendary of Generation 4. This means it's the Sinnoh Region's equivalent of Dratini, Larvitar, Beldum, and Bagon. If it follows the trend of those Pokémon, you will be able to hatch it out of 10KM Eggs. It is expected to cost 25 Gible Candy to evolve.

Gabite

  • CATEGORY: Cave Pokémon
  • PRONOUNCED: gab-BITE
  • TYPE: Dragon / Ground
  • HEIGHT: 4' 07"
  • WEIGHT: 123.5 lbs.
Picture

attack:  172

defense:  130

stamina:  136

max  cp:  1728

We expect it to require 100 Gible Candy to evolve Gabite into Garchomp. We also expect it to take 5KM to earn a Candy when walking it as a Buddy.

Garchomp

  • CATEGORY: Mach Pokémon
  • PRONOUNCED: gar-CHOMP
  • TYPE: Dragon / Ground
  • HEIGHT: 6' 03"
  • WEIGHT: 209.4 lbs.
Picture

attack:  261

defense:  198

stamina:  216

max  cp:  3823

PLACE IN THE META: Garchomp will be one of the best additions from Generation 4. Its Legendary-like stats and Dragon-typing will certainly make it relevant (assuming Niantic gives it the best moves).

Garchomp is a Ground- and Dragon-type, making it a super-charged version of Flygon. This means it resists Rock-, Poison-, and Fire-type attacks. It is weak to Dragon-type and Fairy-type attacks. It is four-times weak to Ice-type attacks, just as Dragonite is.

LIKELY MOVEPOOL: Out of the Fast Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Garchomp:
  • Dragon Tail
  • Iron Tail

Out of the Charged Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Garchomp:
  • Crunch
  • Draco Meteor
  • Dragon Claw
  • Fire Blast
  • Outrage
  • Stone Edge

Should Niantic add any new moves, the following are good candidates for Garchomp's movepool:
  • Dragon Rush
  • Dual Chop
  • Giga Impact

LOOKING AHEAD: Looking beyond Generation 4, Garchomp gains no evolution or exclusive Z-Move. It does, however, gain a Mega Evolution in Generation 6.
