Welcome back to Generation Preparation, Trainers! We are continuing our look into the Alolan regional variants with our analysis of Alolan Marowak. Let's begin!

Marowak has become an undead fire dancer during its time in the Alola region. We know from the Pokédex that Marowak has gained the Fire-typing to take revenge on the Grass-type Pokémon that share its habitat. Marowak's Ghost-typing is theorized to come from a horrific background (Cubone is rumored to be a baby Kangaskhan that fell out of its mother's pouch and was abandoned) and a nod to the time Team Rocket killed a Marowak.
Marowak's Alolan form is obtained by evolving the regular Cubone, as there is no such thing as an Alolan Cubone. With no Item requirement in the main-series games, it is unclear if Niantic will be able to give us a way to control the evolution process. The most likely scenario would be to evolve a Cubone at night or with a nickname trick, like with Eevee to Umbreon.
PLACE IN THE META: Alolan Marowak will likely be a Pokédex filler. As a Fire-type, Alolan Marowak will easily be outclassed by Entei, Moltres, Charizard, and more. Marowak just doesn't have the stats to back up any fiery or ghostly moves.
If Alolan Marowak becomes viable in the metagame at all it will be as a Ghost-type attacker. And that's only because the current roster of usable Ghost-types is limited to Gengar and Banette. But, with more powerhouse Ghost-types in future generations (Giratina, Blacephalon, and Chandelure, specifically), even Alolan Marowak's fantastic design won't keep it relevant for long.
Alolan Marowak is a Fire-type and a Ghost-type. This means it is resistant to Steel-, Grass-, Ice-, Poison-, Fairy-, Fire-type attacks, and greatly resistant to Bug-type attacks. Alolan Marowak takes increased damage from Dark-, Ground-, Rock-, Water-, and Ghost-type attacks.
LIKELY MOVEPOOL: Out of the Fast Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Alolan Marowak:
Out of the Charged Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Alolan Marowak:
Should Niantic add any new moves, the following are good candidates for Alolan Marowak's movepool:
