What's in the box? It's the question that all of us have been asking ever since seeing the trailer for Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!. The Pokémon Company has confirmed that this is a brand-new, never-before-seen Pokémon. So what will that Pokémon be?
NEW EVOLUTION: Many people have theorized that Eevee and Pikachu will get new evolutions in this game. Here's the problem with that: balance. We were only promised one new Pokémon, and if only one of the game mascots gets a new evolution or form, it will look like the developers favor one over the other.
NEW LEGENDARY / MYTHICAL: A new Legendary or Mythical Pokémon is the most likely scenario. After all, we'd need a new Mythical Pokémon to feature in a 2019 Pokémon movie. And, if this Pokémon is #808 in the 'Dex, it wouldn't make sense to be just a regular Pokémon.
GEN 8 POKÉMON: Many people theorized that this Pokémon will be a new Pokémon from Generation 8. While we thought this was likely at first, it seems less likely now. These games are classified as main-series, not spin-offs and Generation 7, not 8. With that in mind, this Pokémon should be classified as Generation 7 as well.
A QUICK NOTE: Whatever this Pokémon turns out to be, everyone is wondering when we'll see it reveled. The Switch games come out on November 16, 2018, but we'll likely see it datamined, possibly revealed, before then. After all, early-release copies of Let's Go! and the update to Pokémon GO will get thoroughly probed before the average person gets their hands on the Let's Go! games.
Speaking of datamines, remember Pokémon Quest? The latest Pokémon spin-off game was recently datamined. Placeholders were found for every existing Pokémon, including #808. This would indicate that a) all Pokémon could come to Quest one day, and b) that the Legendary / Mythical Pokémon theory may hold some weight.
