Trainers, some news for Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! came out during a presentation on Tuesday at the E3 gaming convention.
BUNDLE PACK: A combo pack was revealed for Let's Go and the Poké Ball Plus accessory. Buying this pack will allow you to get the Ball and one of the Let's Go games for the discounted price of $99.99 USD.
MEW: Speaking of the Poké Ball Plus accessory, each Ball will come containing the Mythical Pokémon Mew. This Mew can be transferred into the Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! games. Buying the accessory is the only way to obtain Mew in these games, as it will not be encounter-able in the story or able to be transferred over from Pokémon GO.
CATCHING MECHANICS: The demo showcased some live catching. Poké Balls are thrown from a simple flick of a Joy-Con. The Pokémon can jump around, but that only happens as the game progresses. Only Poké Balls and Ultra Balls were shown in the demo.
There are Berries that can be used in encounters, just as in Pokémon GO. The Razz Berry, which makes a Pokémon easier to catch, was shown. Text also appeared for Pinap Berries, but we do not know if its effect will be the same as in GO. The Pinap Berry text appeared after a Pokémon capture, indicating that catching Pokémon and beating Trainers will be a way of earning items.
A NEW RIVAL: The rival in this game is different than the one in Pokémon Yellow. His name is Trace, who is much more friendly than the adversarial Blue.
WAGGING TAILS: Your partner Pikachu or Eevee may wag their tails while you journey around Kanto. This is an indication of a hidden item nearby.
THE PEWTER GYM: The Gym in Pewter City was shown in the demonstration, and it looks a bit different than before. The Gym features two Trainers before Brock placed in easily-skippable locations. It was also shown that you need to have a Grass-type or Water-type Pokémon in your party when entering the Gym. This is the first time Pokémon games have featured Gyms since Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire.
GO PARK & SAFARI ZONE: Pokémon GO Park has replaced the Safari Zone from the original Kanto games. In case you do not remember, Pokémon GO Park is the location that Pokémon captured in and sent over from Pokémon GO are put in LGPE.
When a Pokémon comes over from your smartphone, it will be stored in one of multiple GO Parks. Sending a Pokémon over will also reward you some Candy back in Pokémon GO. The Pokémon in GO Park will need to be recaptured in Let's Go, and cannot be transferred back to Pokémon GO once being so.
TRAINING & CANDY: During the live demonstration we got some insight to how leveling up and training Pokémon will work. The main way of getting XP seems to be catching Pokémon, which will earn each Pokémon in your party some experience. Battling other Trainers will also earn XP, with the fighting Pokémon getting boosted XP. The final way to earn XP is by walking your Pokémon around in the Poké Ball Plus.
There is also Candy in Let's Go. Candy is used to raise stats, just as Vitamins did in previous games. For example, Quick Candy will raise Speed. These Candies are earned from sending a Pokémon from your Pokémon Box to Professor Oak's lab.
NEW MOVESETS: During the demo, the player's Pikachu was shown learning the move Double Kick upon leveling up. This move has not been learnable by Pikachu before, which could indicate that some Pokémon will be able to learn new moves in these games.
POKÉMON SIZES: As in Pokémon GO, the size of a Pokémon can vary from its average height and weight. A Pokémon with a larger-than-average size will earn XP faster when being walked in the Poké Ball Plus device. Additionally, you can see if a Pokémon is smaller or larger than normal in the overworld. A blue aura will radiate around small Pokémon, and a red aura will appear around large Pokémon.
STATS AND CP: Combat Power (CP) will feature in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu and Eevee!, just as in Pokémon GO. CP is a general representative of a Pokémon's combined stats. There are still HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed stats. Natures also make a return.
Some other Pokémon-related news came out of Nintendo's E3 Direct and Treehouse presentation. It relates to Pokémon GO and Super Smash Bros, and is as follows:
UNOWN AT E3: In celebration of the Let's Go news and playable demo at E3, Unown are now spawning at increased rates around the E3 convention site. More specifically, the variants resembling "L," "E," "T," "S," G," "O," and "!". This marks the first time the exclamation point form of Unown has been made available, and leaves only the question mark form to be released.
POKÉMON IN SMASH: The other big headline that came out of Nintendo's E3 presentation was the details revealed about Super Smash Bros Ultimate. As with the other Smash games in the past, this game features a variety of playable Pokémon characters. Pikachu, Charizard, Mewtwo, Squirtle, Ivysaur, Greninja, Lucario, Pichu, and Jigglypuff are the fighters, and Solgaleo, Lunala, Alolan Vulpix, Abra, Bewear, Scizor, and Alolan Raichu are Poké Ball characters. Many different areas from the Pokémon games, such as Prism Tower and Spear Pillar, also appear in this game.
