Hours ago, Niantic issued a warning that Gyms will soon be shutdown for "remodeling." Today is June 16, the date that the Italian and Japanese blog posts said Gyms will close. Likely, Gyms will shutdown within the next 24 hours, so go claim your defender bonus now!

So,  when  will  the  rework  launch?

To make the launch of the rework fair, Gyms will most likely boot up again on a Thursday or Friday. For those unfamiliar, Apple always puts new updates onto the App Store on Thursdays. Likely, the new update will come out early in a week (Monday or Tuesday) for Android. This will allow Niantic to privately test it before the Gyms come back on. (Remember, the update rolling out does not mean Gyms will reactivate once it's downloaded, as this is a server-side change). iOS users will get the update on Thursday and Niantic will confirm that the iPhone app functions correctly as well. Once Niantic confirms this, they'll likely make this version a forced update and reactivate Gyms shortly after. The week this happens will be next week or, at the latest, the week after.

This is only one of the likely scenarios. The other option seems to be that the update will launch on a Thursday for both platforms, with Gyms being relaunched within the next week. Please keep in mind that these scenarios are the most optimal outcomes, but with Niantic, you never know. Also keep in mind that these scenarios are PNN's estimates based on the launch of Generation 2 and other significant updates. In any case, we can expect that the rework will launch (hopefully) within the next two weeks.
