new summer tour details

Niantic unveiled new details about the Pokémon GO Summer Tour 2018 on Friday evening. In case you do not recall, the Summer Tour is the upcoming Safari Zone at the end of the month in Germany, Pokémon GO Fest in Chicago next month, the Safari Zone in Japan later in the summer, and other unrevealed events. Here's what Niantic revealed:

WILLOW'S CHALLENGE: Similarly to the Global Catch Challenge and catch challenge from Pokémon GO Fest 2017, the 2018 Summer Tour will also feature a global challenge. Professor Willow's Global Challenge will challenge Trainers around the world to complete Field Research tasks.

This global challenge will take place at Safari Zone Dortmund, GO Fest, and Safari Zone Yokosuka. For each event, the world will be divided into four regions: the Americas; the Asia-Pacific region; the Middle East, Africa, and Europe; and finally the actual event site. Each global region must complete 5,000,000 Field Research tasks, and the people at the event must complete 100,000.

When / if a region completes their research goal, the world will receive an award for about a week after the event is over. If all of the regions meet their goal, then we will unlock a bonus reward. If all three bonus rewards are unlocked, it seems we unlock an "ultra bonus." For more specifics, check out this infographic provided by Niantic.

SAFRI ZONE DORTMUND: The city of Dortmund will feature "exciting Raid Battles," and the event site in Westfalenpark will have increased spawn rates of Corsola and Unown. This was already known, but Niantic did give us one new tidbit of information about the Dortmund Safari Zone; Roselia will spawn at increased frequency around the world, and the Shiny variant of it will be released.

POKÉMON GO FEST: Niantic reconfirmed that Trainers that have tickets to GO Fest will see different biomes of Pokémon throughout the hub in Lincoln Park. They added yesterday that non-ticketholders will not be able to catch Pokémon within the boundaries of Lincoln Park, but some special spawns (such as increased rates of Feebas and Trapinch) will also spawn around the world and be catchable by all individuals.

Niantic also announced that we'll be seeing some new forms debut at Pokémon GO Fest 2018. The Alolan variants of Geodude, Diglett, and their evolutions will debut at the event, and be available around the world. Plusle and Minun will also spawn at increased rates, and they will give some bonus Stardust. The Shiny variants of these two Pikachu-like Pokémon will also be released.

ENDING TEASE: Niantic ended their announcement with this phrase: "Trainers, even more surprises are coming. Keep an eye out for more news as we get closer to each event and stay tuned as we continue to announce late-summer events and more!" This phrase indicates that there is still more details about the Summer Tour that Niantic is withholding. And, hopefully, this also refers to some new features / content coming soon, as it has been around 80 days since the research system went live. It's about time for some new content, and hopefully we'll see some soon.

Thanks for reading, Trainers. We hope you had / have a fruitful Community Day full of Shiny Larvitar.
