A big and unexpected update has been announced for Pokémon GO! Trading, plus some other features, will come to Pokémon GO later this week! Let's dive into the announcement!
FRIENDS: You can now befriend other Trainers in game by giving them your personal Trainer Code. You can have up to 200 friends at one time. Niantic have said that they plan to increase the number one day, and that you will not have to pay for the upgrade.
You can track your friends' journey by looking at the Friends List tab, which is accessible in your Trainer profile. The higher the friendship with a Trainer is, the more bonuses you'll receive. Those bonuses include extra Premier Balls from Raids, more damage dealt in Gym and Raid Battles, and Stardust-cost decreases for trading Pokémon.
GIFTS: You may occasionally obtain a Gift after spinning the Photo Disc at a PokéStop or Gym. These Gifts can contain rare items, a post card, and a 7KM Egg that will contain an Alolan form of a Pokémon. But there's a catch! You cannot open these Gifts yourself. Gifts are meant to be sent to people on your Friends List. You can also send items to your friends.
TRADING: Almost two years after the game launched (and even longer since the original trailer), we will finally have the ability to trade Pokémon between one other later in the week. You can trade any non-Mythical Pokémon with any Trainer on your Friends List that is above Level 10. To trade Pokémon, you must be within 100 meters of each other and both sacrifice an amount of Stardust. There is a Candy reward for trading Pokémon.
There are also a special type of trading known as Special Trades. These trades are for Shiny, Legendary, and not-yet-obtained Pokémon. These trades will cost more Stardust than normal, and can be done only once every day.
THAT'S NOT ALL: But this massive announcement isn't the only thing to be excited about. Niantic have hinted in a press conference that more features are on the way. Additionally, the Water Festival will end on Thursday. This means we should (emphasis on the should, as nothing is guaranteed) have an announcement of the next Legendary Raid Boss and Community Day soon!
Thanks for reading, Trainers. We'll continue our analysis of the Alolan forms as the week goes on to prepare for any new regional variants that are released in Gifts. Stay tuned!
