Alolan Sandshrew, Alolan Sandslash
Welcome back to Generation Preparation, Trainers. In this edition, we'll look over the Alolan forms of Sandshrew and Sandslash. Let's begin!

SANDSHREW

The Sandshrew and Sandslash living in the Alola Region have gained an icy exterior after they migrated to a snowy peak. Their sandy armor has frozen over and their claws harden to the strength of steel to live in their new environment.
SUGGESTED: What Will Alolan Persian Be Like in Pokémon GO? - Generation Preparation

SANDSLASH

  • CATEGORY: Mouse Pokémon
  • PRONOUNCED: SAND-slash
  • TYPE: Ice / Steel

PLACE IN THE META: Alolan Sandslash might become relevant if given the right moves. It will still be outclassed by Pokémon like Metagross and Articuno, but it could be a decent back-up if it gets the right moves. Its stats are decent, but it will get decimated by a Fighting-type or Fire-type attack.

Alolan Sandslash is a Steel-type and an Ice-type. This means that it is weak to Ground-type attacks, as well as very weak to Fighting- and Fire-type attacks. It is resistant to Normal-, Fairy-, Bug-, Dragon-, Psychic-, Flying-, and Grass-type attacks, and highly-reistant to Ice-type attacks.

LIKELY MOVEPOOL: Out of the Fast Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Alolan Sandslash:
  • Frost Breath
  • Iron Tail
  • Metal Claw
  • Powder Snow

Out of the Charged Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Alolan Sandslash:
  • Blizzard
  • Earthquake
  • Gyro Ball
  • Iron Head

Should Niantic add any new moves, the following are good candidates for Alolan Sandslash's movepool:
  • Icicle Spear
  • Icicle Crash
Thanks for reading, Trainers.
