GEN 5 PREVIEW

VICTINI
With the Pokémon of Generation 4 mostly released in Pokémon GO, it's time to start thinking about the future. While Generation 5 is likely months away from release, the Unova Pokédex is so massive that we're going to need to get a decent head start if we are to make it from Victini to Genesect before they all show up in the code.

We will be doing pre-release analyses of the Unova Pokémon as we did with the Sinnoh Pokémon. However, we will be following the numerical order of the Pokédex this time. In that spirit, we'll be starting with the oddly-placed Mythical Pokémon at the beginning of the Unova 'Dex: Victini.

PLACE IN THE META: Victini has potential in GO. As a Raider, it has the potential to be pretty good. Even so, it probably won't best Blaziken or Mewtwo as the best Fire-type or Psychic-type option. And, if Victini doesn't get stuck with all one-bar Charged Moves, it could be pretty good in Trainer Battles.

LIKELY MOVEPOOL: Out of the Fast Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Victini:
  • Confusion
  • Hidden Power
  • Zen Headbutt

Out of the Charged Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Victini:
  • Dazzling Gleam
  • Flamethrower
  • Overheat
  • Psychic

Should Niantic add any new moves, the following are good candidates for Victini's movepool:
  • Flare Blitz
  • Searing Shot
  • V-create

LOOKING AHEAD: Looking beyond Generation 5, Victini gains no evolution, exclusive Z-Move, or Mega Evolution that is known of at this time.
Thanks for reading, Trainers!
