gen 4 preview

cranidos, Rampardos
Welcome back, Trainers! In this installment, we'll look at two of the fossil Pokémon from Generation 4, Cranidos and Rampardos. Let's begin.

Cranidos

  • CATEGORY: Head Butt Pokémon
  • PRONOUNCED: CRANE-ee-dose
  • TYPE: Rock
  • HEIGHT: 2' 11"
  • WEIGHT: 69.4 lbs.
Picture

ATTACK:  218

DEFENSE:  75

STAMINA:  134

MAX  CP:  1685

Rampardos and Cranidos are prehistoric Pokémon that were known for headbutting things with their incredibly hard heads. They were not known for their intelligence, however. In fact, Rampardos' Pokédex entry in Pokémon Ultra Moon says "some theories suggest that its stupidity led to its extinction."

We expect Cranidos to have a buddy distance of 5KM or 3KM. We also expect it to be hatchable out of 5KM Eggs.

Rampardos

  • CATEGORY: Head Butt Pokémon
  • PRONOUNCED: ram-PAR-dose
  • TYPE: Rock
  • HEIGHT: 5' 03"
  • WEIGHT: 226.0 lbs.

ATTACK:  295

DEFENSE:  114

STAMINA:  194

MAX  CP:  3179

PLACE IN THE META: Rampardos is going to be a very interesting addition. Its massive Attack stat outclasses that of our current best Rock-type, Tyranitar. Rampardos can learn Smack Down and Stone Edge in the main-series, and also does not have a double weakness to Fighting-type attacks. However, Rampardos is lacking on the defensive side, which could prove to be a hinderance to this Pokémon's overall usability.

Rampardos is a pure Rock-type. This means it is weak to Fighting-, Steel-, Ground-, Grass-, and Water-type attacks. Rampardos is also resistant to Fire-, Normal-, Flying-, and Poison-type moves.

LIKELY MOVEPOOL: Out of the Fast Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Rampardos:
  • Dragon Tail
  • Smack Down
  • Zen Headbutt

Out of the Charged Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Rampardos:
  • Ancient Power
  • Flamethrower
  • Focus Blast
  • Stone Edge
  • Thunder

Should Niantic add any new moves, the following are good candidates for Rampardos' movepool:
  • Head Smash
  • Giga Impact

LOOKING AHEAD: Looking beyond Generation 4, Rampardos gains no evolution, Mega Evolution, or exclusive Z-Move.
