CoroCoro magazine has confirmed that Mega Evolutions are to be a part of Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! Let's dive into the news!
THE NEWS
The two leaked pages from CoroCoro show Mega Evolution and a few other things. Those being the design of Lt. Surge, and the fact that he still uses a Raichu. Also, it shows that you'll have a double battle with Jessie and James of Team Rocket during your progression of the story.
WHAT ARE MEGAS?
If you haven't played the last few sets of main-series games or watched the Kalos anime, you may be confused as to what Mega Evolutions are. Mega Evolution is a temporary transformation of Pokémon that gives the Pokémon increased power. To Mega Evolve your Pokémon, you must have a Key Stone in your possession, while the Pokémon you wish to Mega Evolve holds its corresponding Mega Stone.

*Charizard and Mewtwo have two possible Mega Evolutions. These could be version exclusive in LGPE, but that has not been confirmed.
**Groudon and Kyogre have an ability similar to Mega Evolution known as Primal Reversion. Instead of a Mega Stone, they need to hold a Red Orb or a Blue Orb, respectively.
***Rayquaza can Mega Evolve, but it works differently than the others. Instead of needing a Mega Stone, Rayquaza needs to know the move Dragon's Ascent in order to transform into its Mega form.

NEW MEGAS?
Over the past few days, the main-series community has been abuzz with Mega speculation. Some merchandise leaks indicated Mega Evolution may be a part of Pokémon: Let's Go. Obviously, that has since been confirmed.
There have also been rumors of new trademarks that are upcoming, leading many to speculate that there will be new Mega Evolutions in LGPE. However much we want that to be the case, there is no definitive evidence of that happening.

IMPLICATIONS FOR GO?
Obviously, Pokémon GO and Pokémon: Let's Go are closely connected. With Mega Evolutions coming to LGPE, could we also see them in Pokémon GO as a tie-in? Possibly.
We've already had Alolan forms added as a tie-in for LGPE, so it doesn't seem illogical that we could see the addition of Megas prior to Generation 6. However, at this point in time, there is no indication that this will happen or how Niantic would handle it.
