discussion: should legendaries spawn in the wild?

Legendaries are clearly some of the most coveted Pokémon in the game. But it's how they are available (or how they will be, in the case of Mewtwo) that has drawn some controversy. Are Legendaries too common? Are they too unfair for rural players? We'll discuss it all here.

IN THE WILD: Legendaries should absolutely not spawn in the wild. With Legendary Raids not being rare, having access to your large supply of PokéBalls, Great Balls, and Ultra Balls (and maybe even Master Balls, one day) only devalues Legendaries more. Although Legendaries would be very rare, spoofers camping out at the Santa Monica Pier, Tokyo, Sydney, or any other bustling place for Pokémon GO would only have more of an advantage. And the more Legendaries they catch, the more strong Pokémon they have to knock your Pokémon out of Gyms before you get your 50 Coins.

REGULAR RAIDS: Legendaries spawning so frequently in regular Raids that they have become less valued than what they should be. After all, they are supposed to be rare! Really, the only challenge is defeating the Legendary and throwing Premier Balls accurately enough. As we'll talk about in the next section, Exclusive Raids are just challenging enough that they seem like the best way to acquire Legendaries.

EXCLUSIVE RAIDS: From what we've managed to deduce about Exclusive Raids, it sounds like a good idea. Exclusive Raids will award people active in Raid Battles, making Legendaries slightly more difficult to acquire (which is a good thing). This makes Level 1 and 2 Raids more valuable and exciting, as any Gym you Raided at over the past few weeks will send you an invitation if a Mewtwo Raid pops up.

RURAL / SMALL-TOWN PLAYERS: Traveling is a part of Pokémon GO. (The word "Go" is even in the name). If there are no Gyms near you, drive to some on the weekend. If you can't find people to Raid with, try looking on social media for Raid groups in your area that you can join. If you can't make a free Facebook account, try looking for Raids at a different time of the week (after all, adults have jobs and kids go to school and do homework).

You need to put in the work to get these Pokémon. If Niantic wanted them to be easy-to-get, they'd just place one in everyone's account. Don't wine if you haven't tried to make things work. If all else fails, try to hatch Eggs to get some high-IV Pokémon that you could, one day, trade with someone that has Legendaries. Stocking up on your local regional is also a good idea. Don't feel like you are forced to spoof (after all, it is cheating). If you just can't bring yourself to walk, try playing Pokémon Sun or Pokémon Moon (or, in a few months, Pokémon Ultra Sun or Pokémon Ultra Moon).

EVENTS AND 100% CATCH-RATE: Many people are outraged that people at Pokémon GO Stadium got the first Mewtwo with a 100% catch-rate. Just stop complaining! Niantic's not going to let people at an event leave without the Legendary highlight. Besides, Stadium attendees only got one Mewtwo. GO Fest probably would've done the same with Lugia if the day went as Niantic had planned. That said, three days of unlimited 100% catch-rate is ridiculous. Having Legendaries debuting at an event just hypes them up, making you more excited to get them.
