PLACE IN THE META: We find Carnivine to be one of the most comical Grass-types. Unfortunately, hilarity does not translate into usefulness. It may have been viable for James in the anime, but it won't be viable for us Trainers in Pokémon GO. Its stats and possible movepool are just not as good as Venusaur's, Exeggutor's, Sceptile's, etc.

Luckily for Carnivine, it does have a glimmer of interest. Since Carnivine does not evolve and has a jungle-like design aspect, it is the perfect candidate to become a region exclusive.

Carnivine is a Grass-type. This makes it weak to Ice-, Poison-, Fire-, Bug-, and Flying-type attacks, as well as resistant to Grass-, Water-, Electric-, and Ground-type attacks.

LIKELY MOVEPOOL: Out of the Fast Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Carnivine:
  • Bite
  • Vine Whip

Out of the Charged Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Carnivine:
  • Grass Knot
  • Power Whip
  • Sludge Beam
  • Solar Beam

Should Niantic add any new moves, the following are good candidates for Carnivine's movepool:
  • Leaf Tornado

LOOKING AHEAD: Looking beyond Generation 4, Carnivine gains no evolution, exclusive Z-Move, or Mega Evolution.
Thanks for reading, Trainers!
