PLACE IN THE META: In Generation 4, we were introduced to Rampardos. This fossil Pokémon was weak defensively, but its sky-high Attack stat made it one of the top-tier Rock-type attackers. And in Generation 5, we will likely get an encore performance at Archeops flies awkwardly onto the stage.

Archeops, the brightly-colored ancestor to most bird Pokémon, will be a new powerhouse in the Rock- and Flying-type fields. With its Mewtwo-level Attack stat left to flourish without the hindering Defeatist Ability from the main-series games, Archeops will be a Raiding monster if its movepool is comprised of good attacks.

LIKELY MOVEPOOL: Out of the Fast Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Archeops:
  • Dragon Breath
  • Smack Down
  • Wing Attack

Out of the Charged Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Archeops:
  • Crunch
  • Dragon Claw
  • Rock Slide
  • Sky Attack

Should Niantic add any new moves, the following are good candidates for Archeops' movepool:
  • Acrobatics
  • Head Smash
  • U-turn

LOOKING AHEAD: Looking beyond Generation 5, Archeops gains no evolution, exclusive Z-Move, or Mega Evolution that is known of at this time.
Thanks for reading, Trainers! We're done with the fossil Pokémon, and will be moving onto Trubbish and Garbodor next time.
