PLACE IN THE META: Heatran, a Legendary Pokémon, is going to be a very good addition to Pokémon GO. Its double weakness to Ground is unfortunate, but its stats are phenominal. In fact, calculations show that Heatran will be the best Fire-type Pokémon if given the right moves.

Heatran is a Fire- and Steel-type. This makes it weak to Water- and Fighting-type attacks; four-times weak to Ground-type attacks; resistant to Normal-, Dragon-, Flying-, and Psychic-type attacks; as well as highly-resistant to Steel-, Fairy-, Grass-, Ice-, and Bug-type attacks.

LIKELY MOVEPOOL: Out of the Fast Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Heatran:
  • Fire Fang
  • Fire Spin

Out of the Charged Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Heatran:
  • Crunch
  • Flash Cannon
  • Heat Wave
  • Iron Head
  • Overheat
  • Stone Edge

Should Niantic add any new moves, the following are good candidates for Heatran's movepool:
  • Earth Power
  • Magma Storm
  • Lava Plume
  • Rock Slide

LOOKING AHEAD: Looking beyond Generation 4, Heatran gains no evolution, exclusive Z-Move, or Mega Evolution.
Thanks for reading, Trainers!
