FUTURE RESEARCH BREAKTHROUGHS

Only about a week ago we had the entrance of Suicune into Research Breakthroughs. We all know Suicune is a terrible Pokémon in this game, so it's not very exciting. So what's coming after Suicune, and even after that?

HO-OH  &  LUGIA

While Mewtwo was skipped over and replaced with a special Snorlax, Niantic has been going through the Pokédex as they release the new Research Breakthroughs. With that in mind, Lugia should be up next; Ho-Oh would follow in December. These would be very popular Breakthroughs if they occur, as they would be the first that have the chance of awarding a Shiny Pokémon.

This could also prove to be a good tie-in to the final month of The Pokémon Company's Year of Legendary Pokémon, which features Ho-Oh and Lugia distributions for Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and
Ultra Moon.

LATIOS  &  LATIAS

The question is this: Why was Mewtwo skipped over? Is it because it was the EX Raid Boss at the time, or was it because Research Breakthroughs won't be featuring the main Legendaries? If the answer is the second option, then we expect the Eon Duo instead of Lugia and Ho-Oh.

Regardless of when Latias and Latios come to Research Breakthroughs, we expect them to come before the Legendary Golems. They brought so much hate and negativity to the community due to their difficulty to defeat in Raids and uselessness in the metagame. Also, if Ho-Oh and Lugia are skipped, it hasn't been long enough since the Regi's were in Raids to put them in Breakthroughs so soon.

LEGENDARY  GOLEMS

Third we have everyone's favorite Legendary trio: Regirock, Regice, and Registeel. In terms of the National Pokédex's order, they should come after Lugia and Ho-Oh, or Suicune if Lugia and Ho-Oh are to be skipped. But we don't see them showing their dotted faces in the Breakthrough boxes anytime soon, as their terrible aftertaste still hasn't worn off.

LEGACY  MOVES

Finally, we end with the possibility of another unforeseen Breakthrough that gives a rare, non-Legendary Pokémon with an exclusive move. When Niantic gave us a shot at Body Slam Snorlax through research, we viewed it as a way to give us a Snorlax Community Day without a broken amount of Snorlax spawns or Shiny variant. This could happen again with another rare Pokémon, such as Lapras.
Thanks for reading, Trainers!
