Yesterday was certainly a busy day for Pokémon GO. A new sale went live, Niantic confirmed more news is incoming, and we hit the 24-hour mark of the Global Catch Challenge. Let's dive into all of this news.
DAY ONE: In the first 24 hours of the Pokémon GO Travel Event, we have come up just short of the Bronze Tier. We, as a global community, have caught 298,159,864 Pokémon. Only 2,701,840,136 more to go! We need to pick up the pace a bit, though, or we may not reach the goal in time. And the faster we reach each tier, the longer we have increased Lure time, XP, Stardust, and encounter rates.
Since the Day One mark was met, we have hit the Bronze Tier. The increased spawn rates, double XP, and six-hour Lures are now active, as confirmed by Niantic's catch-meter on Twitter.
NEW SALE: Although this feature was not announced as a part of GO Travel, we expected this (as it seems to be a staple of most events now). A new sale has gone live in the Shop. As always, there is a good deal in the Special Box for the more casual and PokéCoin-limited players. The Ultra Box, in contrast, has a very large amount of high-tier Items and is set for dedicated grinders (with a lowered amount of PokéCoins than usual). And, instead of a Great Box, we can buy Super Incubators loose for 200 Coins each.
NEWS INCOMING: While browsing about Reddit yesterday, we and other members of the Pokémon GO media noticed some interesting comments posted by NianticIndigo (one of Niantic's official accounts). Niantic has confirmed our suspicions that the announcement of the Pokémon GO Travel event was not the promised update that was promised to come (but never did) last week. Sometime in the next few days (assuming Niantic actually sticks to their schedule this time), the promised update to existing an feature or features will be unveiled.
We are still sticking to our realistic prediction of a rework to the EX Raid system and / or a release date for Generation 3. However much we may want to see an announcement for a battle system update (which includes P.V.P. battles, Abilities, etc.), we think this seems unrealistic and very unlikely. That said, the fact that Niantic is giving us a head's up for this news suggests that it's something major, so we could always be thrown for a loop and proven wrong.
Thanks for reading, Trainers. Stay tuned, because we'll be bringing you that major news as soon as we can. In the meantime, make sure to check out yesterday's article about the event's implications for new Pokémon coming soon.
