The Raid system has just gotten a much-needed update. And Niantic's communication skills also got an update with the addition of Developer's Comments to their update post. We'll be giving you our thoughts on this new update here.
TIME & PLACE: With EX Raids only taking place at sponsored and park Gyms, at times that they are particularly active, we cannot find a criticism. It gives us ideas of Gyms to target, and we know that they are accessible. One thing that Niantic does need to do is make sure that young players only get EX Passes for park Gyms, as they cannot interact with sponsored locations.
CANCELLATION: Finally, we are getting compensation and a notification if an EX Raid gets cancelled! And Stardust and Premium Raid Passes are actually good Items! One thing we'd like to see is the ability to turn down an EX invite.
Let's say that you receive an EX Pass, but you're on a long-planned vacation to a foreign country. The ability to exchange an EX Pass for Stardust and Premium Passes would be a welcome addition. Niantic could also handle it in the way that the compensation rewards are automatically awarded if an EX Pass was not used. Personally, we prefer the latter option.
BADGE LEVEL: EX invites needed to be based off of something other than randomness. Gym Badge points are the best way of doing this, and it finally gives them a use. And, if you don't like doing regular Raids, you can still do Gym Battles and spin the Gym's PokéStop to level up your Badge.
The amount of Raids completed should also increase your chances (should the algorithm work fairly) of getting an EX Pass. Obviously, this part of the review is purely theoretical, as no new Passes have been given out since the announcement of the rework. One thing Niantic needs to make sure of doing is including both the regular and Legendary Raids in the total amount of Raids done.
ITEM REWARDS: We have needed more Golden Razz Berries and TMs (especially with Generation 3's release being imminent) and less low-level Potions and Revives. And having that 500 Stardust reward is also very nice.
