1. The debut of mewtwo at Pokemon go stadium
Mewtwo has debuted, rather controversially, at Pokémon GO Stadium in Yokohama, Japan. Soon, likely after Lugia and the birds disappear, Mewtwo will be available worldwide via Exclusive Raids. These new Raids are invitation-only. Invitations are given out to all players who recently (over the past few weeks, according to the official Japanese Pokémon GO Twitter account) beat a Raid Boss at that Gym.
THE LEGENDARY BIRDS: Articuno and Moltres are back, and Zapdos and Lugia have been extended. All three birds and Lugia will all leave Raid Battles on August 31.

Shiny Pikachu, Pichu, and Raichu are now available worldwide! Find Shiny variants of Pikachu and Raichu in the wild, and Shiny Pichu (along with Shiny Magikarp) in 2KM Eggs!
3. Kangaskhan and the "worlds" unown in California
In celebration of the Pokémon World Championships, Kangakhan and the Unown in "worlds" are spawning in Anaheim, California. This mini-event will last from August 18 to August 20.
4. Pokemon go park had over two million attendees!
Niantic released some statistics for Pokémon GO Park. Over two million Trainers came to Yokohama for the event. While they were there, 120 million Pokémon were caught, many of them being Pikachu, Chansey, Mr. Mime, and Mareep. Speaking of Pikachu, 15 million of those lovable, electric mice were captured!
5. Pokemon go and niantic are sponsoring an event in Akron, ohio
Similar to the event in Chester, UK, Niantic is partnering with a company (the Knight Foundation, in this case) to help locals experience the town through the virtual reality that is Pokémon GO. The event will take place at the University of Akron on August 26 and 27 during freshman orientation. The event will feature musicians, activities, temporary PokéStops, and public charging / sitting stations.
6. changes in the raid rewards
Niantic has changed Raid rewards so they now drop Potions. The regular, Super, and Hyper varieties are now available. Unfortunately, Golden Razz Berries and Rare Candies now drop at a lower rate as a counterbalance.
7. New ultra sun & moon trailers!
The Pokémon Company released three trailers (two for Ultra Sun & Moon, and one for TCG) out of nowhere on Friday. The first trailer didn't explicitly reveal any new information except for the new look for your starting avatars. But the second trailer and the Pokémon website revealed some more information.
NEW Z-MOVES: The Trainers in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon will wear the Z-Power Ring, allowing for more Z-Moves to be used. One such Z-Move is Kommo-o's new move, Clangorous Soulblaze. The new move requires the Kommo-o to be holding an unique Z-Crystal and know the move Clanging Scales. Clangorous Soulblaze is a Dragon-type move that hits both opponents and raises the user's Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed.
ULTRA BEASTS IN TCG: Two of the powerful, mysterious, and other-worldly Ultra Beasts are coming to the Pokémon Trading Card Came! Buzzwole and Guzzlord will debut as full-art, GX cards soon!
