GEN 4 PREVIEW

BURMY, WORMADAM, MOTHIM
Welcome back, Trainers! We'll be taking a look at the Burmy family this time, so let's jump straight into it!

BURMY

  • CATEGORY: Bagworm Pokémon
  • PRONOUNCED: BURR-mee
  • TYPE: Bug
  • HEIGHT: 0' 08"
  • WEIGHT: 7.5 lbs.
Picture

ATTACK:  53

DEFENSE:  83

STAMINA:  80

MAX  CP:  409

Burmy is the Caterpie-equivalent of this generation. With that in mind, we don't expect it to be found in Eggs. We do expect it to take 1KM to find a Candy when being walked as a Buddy.

Burmy, as well as Wormadam, has three different forms. Burmy and Wormadam are based off of bagworms, and their cloaks are made of different materials. The cloak is based off of its environment / surroundings. The Plant Cloak is shown here. To see the Sandy Cloak, click here. Click here to see the Trash Cloak.

Burmy also has another interesting mechanic. Similarly to Wurmple, it has two possible Evolutions. But instead of being random, Wormadam is female-only and Mothim is male-only. This is one of multiple gender-based Evolutions in this generation (not to mention others in even more future generations), so it will be interesting to see how Niantic implements this intriguing mechanic.

WORMADAM

  • CATEGORY: Bagworm Pokémon
  • PRONOUNCED: WUR-muh-dam
  • TYPE: Bug / Grass
  • HEIGHT: 1' 08"
  • WEIGHT: 14.3 lbs.
Picture

ATTACK:  141

DEFENSE:  189

STAMINA:  120

MAX  CP:  1616

PLACE IN THE META: Wormadam in its Plant Cloak is a Bug- and Grass-type. This makes it weak to Rock-, Ice-, Bug-, and Poison-type attacks; doubly-weak to Flying- and Fire-type attacks; highly-resistant to Ground- and Grass-type attacks; as well as resistant to Electric-, Fighting-, and Water-type attacks.

LIKELY MOVEPOOL: Out of the Fast Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to this form of Wormadam:
  • Bug Bite
  • Razor Leaf

Out of the Charged Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to this form of Wormadam:
  • Bug Buzz
  • Energy Ball
  • Psychic
  • Solar Beam

Should Niantic add any new moves, the following are good candidates for Wormadam's movepool:
  • Leaf Storm

LOOKING AHEAD: Looking beyond Generation 4, Wormadam gains no evolution, exclusive Z-Move, or Mega Evolution.
SUGGESTED: What Will Electivire Be Like in Pokémon GO? - Generation Preparation

PLACE IN THE META: Wormadam in its Sandy Cloak is a Bug- and Ground-type. This makes it weak to Fire-, Ice-, Water-, and Flying-type attacks; "immune" to Electric-type attacks; as well as resistant to Poison-, Fighting-, and Ground-type attacks.

LIKELY MOVEPOOL: Out of the Fast Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to this form of Wormadam:

MOTHIM

  • CATEGORY: Moth Pokémon
  • PRONOUNCED: MOTH-im
  • TYPE: Bug / Flying
  • HEIGHT: 2' 11"
  • WEIGHT: 51.4 lbs.
Picture

ATTACK:  185

DEFENSE:  98

STAMINA:  140

MAX  CP:  1653

PLACE IN THE META: Mothim and Wormadam will sit on the sidelines of uselessness with Butterfree, Beautifly, Dustox, and the rest of the common Bug-types. Sorry Burmy-family fans, but this Pokémon won't be viable at all.

Mothim is a Bug- and Flying-type. This makes it weak to Fire-, Ice-, Electric-, and Flying-type attacks; doubly-weak to Rock-type attacks; "immune" to Ground-type attacks; highly-resistant to Fighting- and Grass-type attacks; as well as resistant to Bug-type attacks.

LIKELY MOVEPOOL: Out of the Fast Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Mothim:
  • Air Slash
  • Bug Bite

Out of the Charged Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Mothim:
  • Bug Buzz
  • Psychic
  • Silver Wind
  • Solar Beam

Should Niantic add any new moves, the following are good candidates for Mothim's movepool:
  • Acrobatics
  • Lunge

LOOKING AHEAD: Looking beyond Generation 4, Mothim gains no evolution, exclusive Z-Move, or Mega Evolution.
